POSITION PURPOSE
Under general supervision and in furtherance of the safety of the public and Columbus Regional Airport Authority employees and tenants, is responsible for prompt and accurate emergency and non-emergency communications in accordance with established procedures. Understands and demonstrates a commitment to the Columbus Regional Airport Authority's Mission Statement, Business Plan, and Core Principles in addition to all other Authority sponsored initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Assumes responsibility for the effective performance of assigned emergency and non- emergency business communications functions and activities.
• Must have the ability to perform multiple tasks expeditiously, accurately, and simultaneously including:
o Monitoring of access control, fire, and other alarms.
o Radio communications.
o Telephone communications.
o Monitoring of the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system.
o Dispatching of public safety services via Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD).
o Utilizing criminal history and wanted persons databases when so requested.
• Monitors the status of the location, availability, and communications of all public safety units and personnel.
• Must be able to accurately perform administrative duties including:
o Completion of logs and records.
o Computer entries.
o Compilation of statistics.
o Filing.
Fosters employee relations as established by the Authority.
• Adheres to and upholds all Authority Work Rules, policies, and procedures adopted by the Authority (e.g. - harassment, discrimination, hostile work environment, etc.).
• Represents and conducts self in a professional manner.
• Expected to exhibit appropriate and professional clothing and personal grooming habits as outlined by the Authority.
Miscellaneous
• Maintains and supports a high level of customer service to peers, partners, and passengers.
• Adheres to safe operating procedures set forth by the Columbus Regional Airport Authority Environmental, Safety and Health Administrators, and OSHA.
• Other duties as appropriate from other relative job descriptions.
• Other assignments and/or duties as directed by a member of management.
• Must have knowledge of, and comply with CRAA and Public Safety Division rules, regulations, and policies.

WORKING CONDITIONS
None - No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions. Work primarily in office environment; occasional travel from site to site; exposure to computer screens.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification High School diploma or GED.
Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver license, in good standing. If job assignment includes driving requirements.
Required Knowledge Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience Required Prior experience as a Communications Technician with another
Public Safety agency is preferred.
Skills/Abilities Ability to process information of a highly sensitive or confidential nature, some of which is protected by law.
Ability to professionally manage the stress of volatile or multiple
situations, such as verbally abusive or hysterical telephone calls, in a calm, tactful, but firm manner.
Ability to professionally work with Authority personnel and tenants, the public, and other emergency services agencies. Ability to type 35 words per minute with an 85% degree of accuracy.
Ability to work a varied shift, including weekends and holidays,
and on occasion, in excess of the normal eight (8) hour tour of duty.
Ability to remain calm and professional during stressful situations. Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, in a professional, businesslike manner.
Must be multi-task oriented with sound judgment. Excellent organizational skills.
Required to have regular and predictable attendance.

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
Finger dexterity Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as
typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
Repetitive motions Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists,
hands, and/or fingers.
Talking Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Average visual abilities Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect
documents or products, or operate machinery.
Average hearing Ability to hear average or normal conversations and receive
ordinary information.
Physical strength Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of
force occasionally.

MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION


Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out
detailed but uninvolved instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables.
Mathematics Ability Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding,
subtracting, multiplying, and dividing two digit numbers; the four basic arithmetic operations with money; and operations with units such as inch, foot, yard; ounce, and pound (or their metric counterparts).
Language Ability Ability to use passive vocabulary of 5,000-6,000 words; read at a
slow rate; and define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation.
Ability to write complex sentences, using proper punctuation, and using adjectives and adverbs.
Ability to communicate in complex sentences, using normal word
order with present and past tense and good vocabulary.
