Under general supervision, is responsible for performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks. Understands and demonstrates a commitment to the Columbus Regional Airport Authority's Mission Statement, Business Plan, and Core Principles in addition to all other Authority sponsored initiatives.


Assumes responsibility for the effective performance of assigned tasks.

  • Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks including but not limited to shoveling and raking paving materials, brush cutting and weed whipping vegetation from ditch lines, fences, guardrails, etc.
  • Operates air hammer to remove asphalt and Portland cement concrete pavements.      
  • Mixes concrete for light bases footers and other related applications.
  • Assists in excavation and trenching operations.
  • Assists airfield grass mowing.
  • Participates in snow removal operations on the airfield and road as a regular part of the snow removal operations.
  • Fosters employee relations as established by the Authority.
  • Adheres to and upholds all Authority Work Rules, policies, and procedures adopted by the Authority (e.g. - harassment,      discrimination, hostile work environment, etc.).
  • Represents and conducts self in a professional manner.
  • Expected to exhibit appropriate and professional clothing and personal grooming habits as outlined by the Authority.


  • Maintains and supports a high level of customer service to peers, partners, and passengers.
  • Adheres to safe operating procedures set forth by the Columbus Regional Airport Authority Environmental, Safety and Health Administrators, and OSHA.
  • Other duties as appropriate from other relative job descriptions.
  • Other assignments and/or duties as directed by a member of management.


Work in an indoor, outdoor, and mechanical shop environment; occasional travel from site to site; ability to work in adverse weather conditions. The worker is subject to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation etc. which affect the skin or respiratory system.

Shift – five (5) hours; first and second shift.  Must be available to work up to twelve (12) hour shifts during winter operations.

Flooring – variable by location to include outdoor terrain, uneven and potentially wet or slippery surfaces.

Lighting – variable, natural and artificial light.

Temperature – exposed to outdoor seasonal temperatures.

Safety equipment – hearing protection, gloves, safety work boots, safety goggles/glasses, or other personal protective equipment depending on job assignment, etc.




High school diploma or GED. 

Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver license, in good standing. Must obtain   airfield driving privileges as required for specific job duties.


Required Knowledge


General knowledge of the use of hand and/or power tools normally used in this type of work. 

Possess knowledge of common work practices.



No previous experience required.



Willingness to work in inclement weather and to tolerate extremes in temperature and   precipitation.

Ability to perform heavy manual labor over a long period of time.

Ability to communicate clearly, particularly with two-way radio.

Ability to read and understand written directions.

Willingness to learn and acquire new skills.

Ability to determine locations by use of compass directions (i.e. north, south, east and   west).

Willingness to be available for emergency and unplanned overtime events.

Must be available for snow and have the ability to operate all equipment as needed   and trained.

Ability to read and write.

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks.

Ability to cooperate and communicate well with others.

Required to have regular and predictible attendance.





Bending downward and forward at the waist.  Requires full use of lower extremities and back muscles.



Resting on knee or knees.



Bending downward and forward at the leg and spine.



Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.



For extended time periods.



Especially for long distances.



Using upper body to press against something with steady force.



Using upper body to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects.



Use of upper body and back muscles to lift objects.



Using fingers and palm on an object.


Average hearing


Ability to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.


Average visual abilities

Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.

Physical strength


Must be physically able to perform the essential functions and basic duties of assigned job.

Ability to lift in excess of 75 lbs.




Reasoning Ability


Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization.

Ability to interpret various instructions.


Mathematics Ability


No math skills are required for this position.


Language Ability


Ability to read policies, instructions etc.

Ability to communicate with peers and supervision.

Ability to communicate over the radio and convey accurate information.

Ability to communicate in simple sentences.
